Toby was ahead of his times. Now that there is a widening gap in conformation between field and showlines, breeders are stressing the importance of the dual-type dog, field and show. Although he was not
campaigned in the show ring he did have a major win and other placements. In club field trials he competed against nationally known field champions. He placed or jammed in nineteen straight trials as a Derby dog and about that many as an Open dog. A performance record that would be hard to equal.Toby was line bred on CH Blake's Gold Dust of Hazel Park. With his looks and field trial performance record he was the type of dog today's breeders would want as a sire. He had at least one littermate that achieved it's bench title.
